Ukrzaliznytsia Receives Six New Ukrainian-Made Passenger Carriages for the Kharkiv–Przemyśl Route

Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) continues to modernise its passenger fleet despite the ongoing war and repeated attacks on railway infrastructure. Six new passenger carriages, manufactured in Ukraine, have joined the company’s fleet. They are expected to enter service soon on the international K

Greater Comfort and Energy Independence

One of the key features of the new carriages is their powerful battery systems, which allow essential onboard services to continue operating for extended periods even in the event of a power outage.

These systems support lighting, air conditioning, toilets and other passenger facilities. This is particularly important given Russia’s ongoing attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

60 New Carriages in 2026

Since the beginning of 2026, Ukrzaliznytsia has already received 44 new passenger carriages, with another 16 expected by the end of the year.

The new carriages are purchased using state budget funds, supporting both the development of railway infrastructure and domestic Ukrainian manufacturers.

Railway Workers Who Make a Difference

Beyond modern equipment, people remain the backbone of Ukraine’s railway system.

Special recognition was given to the train crew led by Tetiana Sizova, operating on the Kharkiv–Przemyśl route. Since the beginning of autumn, the team has successfully carried out 30 evacuations.

In 2022, Tetiana Sizova also led more than 50 civilian evacuation journeys from the Zaporizhzhia and Pokrovsk directions.

The crew pays particular attention to passengers with disabilities, assisting wheelchair users, people with visual impairments and anyone requiring additional support during their journey.

Strengthening Rail Connections Between Ukraine and Poland

The modernisation of passenger carriages, restoration of damaged infrastructure and improvements in passenger safety remain essential priorities for Ukrainian Railways.

The Kharkiv–Przemyśl route plays an important role in connecting Ukrainian cities with Poland and the wider European railway network.

For passengers, these improvements mean more comfortable journeys, greater reliability and stronger international transport connections.
